Roar player Mackenzie visits NYU Juniors
Long term sponsor RSL Services & Citizens Club Nambour Inc and official Brisbane Roar partner Pauls Milk combined resources and secured a visit from top Brisbane Roar W-League player Mackenzie Arnold. Arnold dropped in on Nambour Yandina United’s K3 Coaching camp on Friday 7th, much to the delight of the NYU junior squad.
Nambour RSL Club’s involvement with NYU spans many years with the Club being a major sponsor of the team. General Manager Suzanne Long explains, ‘Nambour RSL Club sponsors over 30 clubs and organisations in the region to assist them to keep running. Our vision is to continue to grow the future of Nambour and assisting Club’s like NYU help us achieve that goal.’
Growing the futures of little NYU players is certainly something Nambour RSL Club’s Assistant General Manager, Laurie Williams is passionate about. The long time volunteer to NYU explains, ’We have an increasing number of junior players and a lot of them don’t have the financial means to go to Brisbane to see or experience top level soccer.’
This lack of resource led Laurie to seek collaboration with Brisbane Roar sponsor Pauls Milk to see if they could attract a Roar player to one of the teams training sessions during the Easter school holidays.
‘To have an amazing A-league athlete like Mackenzie Arnold at the training session is an enormous thrill for the kids and an experience they won’t forget.’
Laurie continues, ’NYU have been very active in the community this year with the Local schools cup. The Club’s aim is to have as many kids as possible have access to play soccer. Mackenzie has helped us get our current players excited and has helped raise the profile of the club.’
NYU host regular school holiday training camps at their grounds at Yandina provided by K3 Coaching. K3 are a local business that specialise in training and coaching camps. Their camps are affordable and suit all abilities and levels. Korey from K3 was delighted to have Mackenzie attend the Easter session.
Mackenzie Arnold is an impressive sports figure. Her international career in soccer was launched in 2012 with her first call-up to the Australian national team debuting at the EAFF Women’s East Asian Cup preliminary round. She was included as one of three goal keepers in the Matildas squad for 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and was selected in the Australian squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2016 Mackenzie joined Brisbane Roar.
‘I think the kids, and just quietly the adults, have certainly picked up some new skills with Mackenzies’ help,’ Laurie laughs.
