Nambour RSL Club Shines at Industry Awards

RSL Services & Citizens Club Nambour Inc. was recognised as an award winning venue at last weeks gala evening in Brisbane with over 1000 people from the Queensland Clubs industry attending the night. The Club’s significant redevelopment was awarded first place amongst Queensland Clubs with the ‘Best Club Redevelopment’ award and the newly renovated function space was also recognised as ‘Best Event Facilities & Services’ amongst high profile competition.

The Club is no stranger to industry recognition with a solid list of awards throughout the years including being named Best Club Sunshine Coast several times and the Club’s Café Altro being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015 after winning Best Club Café several times.

‘Our staff are highly customer focused and put in their very best to ensure our members have a memorable experience with us,’ Suzanne Long, General Manager of the Club explains. Proud of the teams efforts she continues, ’When you combine this bunch of great individuals you get an exceptional team.’

The industry awards are open to all community clubs including Surf Clubs, Bowling Clubs, Leagues and RSL Clubs. 2017 saw over 50 Clubs enter.

‘Being recognised amongst high calibre competition is humbling,’ Suzanne admits.

Attending the gala awards event forms part of the reward for all staff who were recognised in the Club’s annual Staff Rewards Program.

Suzanne comments, ’It’s a great pleasure to witness the staff member of the year recipients have a fantastic night of networking and fun at the awards ceremony. We wouldn’t be in the running for these awards if it were not for their hard work and dedication. It is heartening to take them along to such a glamorous event.’

Completed in 2015 the Club’s latest redevelopment lifts the venue to be a benchmark not only in Nambour but across the whole of the Sunshine Coast. The renovation delivered a refreshed restaurant for the Club with updated and modern furnishings including the creation of different dining spaces that suit couples, large groups and families.

It also delivered a new youth zone for teenagers, plush new lounge bar to enjoy a drink before dining or watch the Clubs free entertainment, and an extension to the state of the art gaming lounge.

A significant part of the renovation delivered a state of the art function facility ideal for special occasions, weddings and corporate events. The venue features a stand alone bar and amenities, dance floor, stage, audio visual including feature screens around the room, wi-fi and plush fittings and fixtures to add to the atmosphere of your event. Combine these features with a contemporary menu delivered by Executive Chef Matthew Smyth and you have yourself a first class event.

Matthew was also recognised during the evening reaching finalist status for ‘Silver Chef of the Year’. Matthew and his team have developed a series of creative menus with a wide range of choice to suit the different requirements of the groups the Club hosts from junior sports presentation evenings to gala dinners and weddings.

Running a business in a hinterland community is not without its challenges.

‘We avoid focussing on barriers to success as venue but the truth is we are a venue that is not located in a high density, high tourist area. This functions award certainly proves that if you deliver something exceptional to the community it will be utilised and it will also have the potential to drive trade to your door from outside of your immediate catchment.’

Suzanne continues, ’We are always striving to improve our services and remain relevant in a changing market. The board, management team and staff are all committed to ensuring we continue the Club’s legacy into the future for our next generation to enjoy.’
