Nambour champions Community Growth

The Nambour RSL Club yesterday donated $40,893 in grants to 11 community groups as part of its annual Community Benefits Grants program. The recipients represented an enormous cross section of the Nambour and surrounding community; covering sports, education, health and more. In recent years the Nambour RSL Club has injected more than $3.7 million into the region through sponsorships, grants and donations.

The Grants Program is now in its 11th year and was hosted by Director Justin Veivers. CEO Suzanne Long, Directors of the Boldbridge Group, the company that owns and operates Nambour RSL Club and members of the management team joined the 11 community groups to celebrate their achievement.

‘In the last 11 years over $600,000 has been distributed through this Grants Program alone and is a tremendous benefit to our local Nambour Community’, explained Nambour RSL Club CEO Suzanne Long.

‘The Nambour RSL Club’s community program has the philosophy that if we work together and play together it is the community that profits. We live by this philosophy and have seen many local organisations continue thanks to our assistance. It is all about growing the future of our community.’

Community Clubs like Nambour RSL Club play a vital role in supporting and sustaining thriving communities.

‘The reality is that if community Clubs like ours didn’t exist then funding for a lot of yearly community activities would simply disappear. Obviously a large number of groups had to be turned away. They are now out there seeking funding for events and activities that may not happen if they don’t find a sponsor.’

This year’s funding included a donation of $4,937 to the Brookes Street Kindergarten. Established in 1967 it is a not-for-profit community based organisation teaching early childhood to children aged 3-5 years. The Kindy is run by a team of volunteers, has four staff and lives by the philosophy that they are an inclusive kindergarten for all, with a strong focus on outdoor education, play based learning and social development. The funds will be used to replace existing windows to meet modern safety requirements and allow the rearrangement of furniture to create diverse spaces for play, learning and rest.

Another recipient was Nu-Road Welfare, the welfare arm of The Shack Community Centre. The organisation is now in its 17th year and strives to support those most in-need across the community; by offering lunch, dinner, food parcels, clothing, hot showers and counselling. The funding provided by Nambour RSL Club will be used to support the ‘Community Freezer Program’ which aims to consistently supply 30 support groups with up to 10,000 meals every year.

Other groups who received a grant were the 2nd Nambour Scout Group to fund new camping equipment and Al Taylor for Kids to purchase new audio equipment, both to assist in running outdoor activities for their members. Burnside State School also received funding to deliver Equine Assisted Therapy to support students coping with traumatic experiences and the Nambour Special School received the funds required to purchase specially designed fitness playground equipment for its second campus. Nambour State College and the Mapleton State School P&C both received funding to purchase IT equipment in order to provide modern learning spaces for their students. The Diddillibah Community Hall and Progress Association and PCYC also received funding for the upgrade of facilities so that they can better support the community.

After many years of continuous and strong community engagement the Club enjoys a positive, strong leadership position in the community having donated close to $4 million dollars.

Additionally, Nambour RSL Club contributes over $3 million in state government tax annually. Of this amount approximately $260,000 is contributed back to the local community via the governments community benefits levy.

The Club will continue its tradition of running the Community Grants program in 2020 with submissions opening early 2020.
