The RSL Services & Citizens Club Nambour Inc proudly presented newly enrolled Junior Crushers with protective headgear with special guest Jack Reed, ex Broncos and English test player on Thursday. This will be the seventh year Nambour RSL Club has assisted with protective gear making it safer for our young players on the football field.

Nambour RSL Club maintains its ongoing relationship with the local Nambour Rugby League team supporting both Juniors and Seniors as a long term sponsor and passionate supporter of promoting children’s safety in sport. The initiative has seen all newly signed under 6 and under 7 players receive protective headgear, an important inclusion in their uniform.

Ms Suzanne Long, General Manager stated that raising safety awareness and instilling habits from a young age is the key.

‘We have found that many of the players have continued to wear their headgear when they go on to play into the senior grades. This is a very positive outcome. It’s great to see even more juniors hitting the field in 2017’

The Nambour Rugby League Club, formed in 1985, continues its success fielding sides from Under 6’s through to A grade. 2017 has seen increasing interest in the Junior club with all player numbers on the rise especially in the younger grades.

Crusher’s Junior President, Peter O’Leary, thanked the Nambour RSL Club for its donation.

‘It is a great advantage for us to be able to promote that every new under 6 and under 7 player receives headgear for free. It meets the team’s values and demonstrates that we are proactive in protecting our players. We are grateful for the ongoing sponsorship we receive from the RSL Club and recognise that they support many organisations in the local area,’ Mr O’Leary said.

Thursday’s presentation of the protective head wear in conjunction with Jack Reeds visit made it extra special for the team.

Jack holds an impressive resume making his debut with the Brisbane Broncos during Round 1 of the 2011 NRL season and going on to compete in the NRL All Stars team for the 2012 match and playing in the 2015 NRL Grand final. Despite retiring after injury in 2016 Jack continues to be a passionate advocate of the sport.

The Junior Crushers are just one of the many sporting groups that Nambour RSL Club assists throughout the year. After a recent audit the Club can proudly say that over 1,600 kids get to run onto local sporting fields thanks to the Clubs sponsorship involvement. This is a significant contribution to the sporting community.

In addition to sporting involvement the Club runs a comprehensive and generous community program comprising of donations, sponsorships and the annual community grants program currently calling for submissions from organisations in need.

Ms Long explains that eligible groups can now apply for grants up to $5000.

‘We have $50,000 in grants to distribute this year to our community. For many groups this injection of funds makes all the difference when looking at the purchase of equipment, running a community event or delivering a community service,’ Ms Long stated.

To learn more about the Clubs community activity or to apply for a community grant before March 31st please visit and download an application from the community section or phone 5441 2366.

Nambour RSL Club is open 7 days from 10am with free parking.
