Jack Reed and Nambour RSL Club welcome Nambour Crushers youngest players There were only smiling faces at the Nambour Crushers Under 6’s training yesterday when Nambour RSL Club and ex-Bronco Jack Reed welcomed the newly enrolled team and presented each with protective headgear. This is now the eighth year the RSL Services & Citizens Club Nambour Inc have donated headgear to make the game safer for our youngest players. This was a timely occasion as the Under 6’s prepare for their first match with Nambour RSL Club’s Assistant General Manger Laurie Williams reminding kids to ‘just have fun and have a go’. The Club has long supported the local rugby league side and are passionate about children participating in sport. Special guest Jack Reed and ex-Bronco player was a hit and had the honour of presenting the protective wear to players. ‘This is going to keep you safe’ Jack said to young Max who then got to shake hands with the former football star. Thursday’s presentation of the protective head wear paired with Jack Reeds visit made it a special afternoon for the team. Nambour RSL Club are proud long-term supporters of the local rugby league side and are passionate about both children and safety in sport. General Manager Suzanne Long explains ‘we sponsor over 30 sporting clubs and organisations within the region and last year we assisted 1,638 kids to take the field, pitch or court”. ‘Introducing protective gear from a young age is important and it teaches kids the importance of safety which they can then continue through junior and senior grades.’ In addition to sporting involvement the Club runs a comprehensive and generous community program comprising of donations, sponsorships and the annual community grants program currently calling for submissions from organisations in need. Ms Long explains that eligible groups can now apply for grants up to $5,000. ‘We have $50,000 in grants to distribute this year to our community. For many groups this injection of funds makes all the difference when looking at the purchase of equipment, running a community event or delivering a community service,’ Ms Long stated. To learn more about the Clubs community activity or to apply for a community grant before March 31st please visit nambourrsl.com.au and download an application from the community section or phone 5441 2366.
