We are pleased and proud to announce the USC Nambour RSL Club Elite Athlete Scholarship for 2021 is awarded to Chris Holland.  Chris started out in Equestrian at a very young age at the Nambour Pony Club and attended school right here in Nambour. He represented Australia in 2020 and was ranked 3rd on the Australian Young Rider Squad. What an amazing achievement all while studying a Bachelor of Business/Law at USC.

Chris says, “As the very proud recipient of the 2021 Nambour RSL Club Elite Athlete Scholarship, I wanted to thank you personally for the great opportunity this scholarship will provide to me.

“I have completed my first year of a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business at USC and am now in my second year. This career path has long been a passion of mine and I have very much enjoyed my studies thus far. I am encouraged to read that your philosophy is that ‘if you are passionate about what you do then you will always succeed’ and I sincerely hope that is the case for me.

“I am actively involved in the sport of Show jumping and look forward to combining my studies with my sporting commitments this year. My riding career has strong ties to the Nambour community as I first began in the grassroots level as a member of Nambour Pony Club.

“While my riding has progressed to a National and International Riding level, I continue to have a strong connection to the Nambour Pony Club and in recent years I have regularly volunteered to help with the younger generation of riders coming up within the club as I believe it is my responsibility to give back to the sport and the community which has given so much to me. My most recent volunteering role for Nambour Pony Club was at their annual jumping weekend on the 6th and 7th February this year. I spent that weekend assisting the course builders, helping riders to warm up before competition and working as an entry gate steward where I was able to offer advice to young riders prior to their jumping rounds. I would like to think that the greatest assistance I can provide to members of my sport at grassroots level is for them to see that even those from humble backgrounds can go on to ride at the highest level of the sport with hard work and dedication.

“In granting this scholarship to me, you have greatly assisted my ability to continue competing throughout the coming year whilst also continuing my university studies. This year I hope to compete in the top level of my sport (World Cup), and the funds which this scholarship provides will greatly assist me in reaching that lifelong goal. This scholarship also means that I will be able to concentrate on my studies with reduced financial stress, which is crucial.

“Once again, I thank the Nambour RSL for the generous support this scholarship has provided.”

Nambour RSL Club has been a supporter of young and local athletes for a number of years now and we love to see them grow in their sport and studies. Congratulations Chris and we wish you all the best.
