Suncoast Care reaches further with Nambour RSL Club

The Nambour RSL Services & Citizens Club Inc is proud to have donated $5,000 to Suncoast Care through its annual Community Grants Program. Funding assisted in the purchase of a new refrigerated ute to maintain and expand on Suncoast Care’s already expansive programs. Suncoast Care are invaluable in the Sunshine Coast community, assisting the most disadvantaged members by reducing food insecurity through their low cost grocery store, soup kitchen, school pantries program and emergency relief.

The grant received from the Nambour RSL Club is the final amount needed to secure a new Toyota Hilux vehicle with a refrigerated Pantech to transport this much needed food.

Suncoast Care Director John Kenny says “with reliable transport we are able to collect rescued food, particularly items requiring refrigerated transport from suppliers and producers. This results in less food going into landfill and benefits the community as a whole”.

RSL Services & Citizens Club Nambour’s General Manager Suzanne Long said, “we are honoured to continue to partner and support Suncoast Care in our community. The purchase of this new vehicle is a valuable addition to the organisation which will benefit countless families in need”.

“The total number of community members receiving benefit from the grant funded project is conservatively estimated at 12,000”, said Mr Kenny.

This includes customers of the low-cost community grocery store located in Nambour, students across the Sunshine Coast who arrive without breakfast or lunch supplies, those attending the soup kitchen and emergency relief clients.

Suncoast Care also delivers to and partners with domestic violence refuge, STEMM which assists teenage mothers to return to school, other soup kitchens and a number of other community programs around the Coast, Mr Kenny explains.

“Suncoast Care greatly appreciates the support received from the RSL Services & Citizens Club Nambour.”
