Nambour RSL Club is excited to announce the third round of Community Grants Funding for Individual grants will range from $1000.00 to $5000.00 per application, where it can be proven that meaningful impact will result from the community grant.

Suncoast Christian Broadcasters Association
106.5 Rhema FM is a listener supported, volunteer run, not for profit community radio station broadcasting 24/7 from studios in Nambour to the Sunshine Coast.
The station's aim is to maintain a close connection with the community and regularly broadcasts interviews with local people and conducts outside broadcasts from popular venues in support of local charities or community functions. Community broadcasts were conducted last financial year from schools, churches and shopping centres for organisations such as Destiny Rescue, Road Trauma Services and Blue Care.
In order to increase this activity of direct broadcasts, the purchase of 2 roving microphones would be of great benefit when conducting interviews during these events. This grant funding will contribute towards the purchase of 2 Roving microphones.

Woombye State School P&C
The Woombye State School P&C works closely with Woombye State School to build a strong school community where all students benefit. The P&C Association aims to foster community interest in school matters, encourages cooperation between parents, members of the community, staff and students. It provides financial and other forms of resource support for the school and provides advice and recommendations to the School Principal.
Woombye State School until recently had a much loved 13 year old, public address system which has now broken down, unable to be repaired. As a consequence, the school is currently using an old back- up system which does not provide the quality or volume required for a school of 400 students at weekly parades, school fairs, sports days, Anzac Day ceremonies and other special celebrations and functions. The funding from this grant will assist in the purchase of a new Public Address System.

Nambour Festivals Inc.
The 2011 Nambour Festival is a "free entry", day long community celebration held on Saturday 7th August 2011. The festival has two distinct features, the main part of the event gives music, dance, wildlife displays, horse and buggy rides, static displays, lectures, workshops and the usual stalls selling or demonstrating a variety of items.
The second is a concept unveiled last year called "Local Harvest" which featured locally grown or made produce, beekeeping demonstrations, celebrity cooking, jam making etc.
The main objectives are to create a sense of community, build town pride and deliver economic stimuli for retailers and service providers.
The grant funding provided will with event coordination and stall holder liaison for the Festival.

The Shack Community Centre
The Shack was conceived in 2002 with the purpose to provide for the needs and concerns of many community members, in particular young people in Nambour. The centre soon became well established as a vital thread in the fabric of Nambour and the surrounding district.
The Shack has developed numerous youth programs one of which is called "Thursday Alternate Program" (TAP) for at risk primary school age boys. The program takes place under the safe supervision of (Dale Dowler) and a teacher support (Bob Farrell), where the boys are given the opportunity to learn a great number of new skills through wood work. The program promotes new skills, self esteem, team sprit, self expression, safety, structure and fun.
The children who are currently involved in the TAP program would greatly benefit from a selection of new woodworking tools / equipment to enhance the education provided and keep the TAP program going on a long term basis for many others to utilise.
The grant funding will be used to buy a selection of new woodwork tools and equipment.

Maroochy Waterwatch Inc
The Maroochy Waterwatch River Patrol since February 2007 has become beneficial partner with Maroochy Waterwatch Inc / Maroochy Catchment Centre to ensure the Maroochy River system is subject to minimal pollution intrusion. With over 70 financial members, including 18 volunteer licensed boat operators and crew, the River patrol boat is active five mornings a week in monitoring water quality and pollution, litter collection, mangrove regeneration and assisting the public using the waterways.
The funding from this grant will be used to purchase weather protection equipment for the boat, outboard and associated safety requirements, including a boat canopy, boat cover, outboard motor cover, and skipper seat.

Yandina Cricket Club
The Yandina Pioneers Cricket Club Established in 1903 with a membership of 134 provides a range of social and competition facilities for all members to participate in cricket, at a level which is affordable and comparable with their skills and requirements from junior to highest club levels. The Clubs present shelter is not large enough to cater for the 12 players and officials from each team we have utilising the facilities.
The funding from this grant will enable the Club to extend their shelter shed roof by approximately 5 metres will allow further protection from the hot summer sun, while also giving the players a place to shelter in rain or stormy weather.

Lily House
Lily House is an essential women's accommodation centre in Nambour opened in response to a critical need to provide temporary housing for women in difficult circumstances - focussing particularly on young pregnant women providing pre and post natal support.
Young women are supported to give birth and are also supported in developing skills needed to create a loving safe environment in which to raise their children. All 8 staff and the live in carer are unpaid volunteers. Since the house opened in August 2009, 33 girls (and 40 children) have already been helped successfully.
All the whitegoods in the houses have been donated and are second hand and rapidly deteriorating. This funding will enable the houses to purchase new whitegoods including washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, stove tops and ovens.

Australian Red Cross - Nambour
The Nambour Branch of the Australian Red Cross was formed on 28th August 1914 assisting with the war efforts overseas.
Over the years the Branch has been involved in many areas of support to the local community including Aged Care, Emergencies, PlayScheme, Medical equipment hire, and Trauma Teddies and Welfare. The branch has also been associated with other local organisations including many local Churches and the CWA.
The Branch has a building in Nambour that is hired out to various community groups. The Branch would benefit greatly from the provision of a new folding trestle table which would enable hires and Branch members to hold meetings and functions in a more enjoyable manner.

Brooks Street Nambour Community Kindergarten and Preschool
The Brookes Street Kindergarten in Nambour was established in 1967. The Kindergarten is run entirely by a committee of 10 volunteers.
The Kindergarten provides high quality education for children 3½ to 5 years of age. The Brooks Street Kindergarten promotes an environment that encourages, supports, challenges and offers numerous opportunities for learning in an informal, fun and safe environment.
The aim of the grant is to build a 1.8m Feature Fence between the Kindergarten and the neighbouring property, providing the children and their families with protection, privacy and security. Further to this the garden in front of the fence has a memorial statue in honour of ‘Miss Jenny' Hickerrton (Director of the Kindergarten for 20 years) who passed of cancer in 2008. The fence will provide a wonderful backdrop to highlight the statue and its importance.

Nambour Community Preschool & Kindy
The Nambour Community Preschool and Kindergarten provides a play based education experience for local children aged 3 ½ to 4 ½ years of age. The aim of the centre is to encourage children and their families in a sense of community, co-operation and collaboration. They encourage families to become actively involved in the centre in order to enrich each child's learning experiences and promote self esteem.
Last year the centre laid soft-fall below the playground equipment to protect the children at playtime. However the soft-fall became to hot in the sun and was burning the children's feet. To remedy the situation the centre had a shade sail erected. This additional cost has put immense pressure on the Kindy's financial position. With the help of the grant funding, the centre will be able to alleviate this financial burden and turn their focus to other concerns, and allow the children to learn in a caring and safe environment.

Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio Club Inc
The Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio Club is a non for profit, incorporated club that brings together local Licensed Amateur Radio Operators on the Sunshine Coast. One of the services the club provides is communication in times of emergency when normal communication may have failed.
The club has volunteered their time and equipment on numerous occasions in support of various local and state government agencies for public safety and coordination. The club provided support earlier this year where the Communications Van that was used as a base for the workers on the Kawana beachs. They have also been heavily involved in providing communication assistance in other emergencies such as during the Noosa flooding in 2007.
This funding will enable the club to purchase a Marque to protect the volunteers from the weather whilst working and assisting during emergency situations and during times of deployment away from home base.

The Sunshine Troupe
The Sunshine Troupe is a drama group for young adults with a physical or intellectual disability on the Sunshine Coast. The Troupes activities provide a vital opportunity for young people with a disability to challenge and develop themselves physically and mentally in a fun and structured learning environment.
The aim for the Troupe this year is to expand its drama programmes to include live performances to the public, providing a wonderful opportunity for the young people to become integrated and valued in the community. Over the last 18 months, the Sunshine Troupe has been working to produce its first drama production ‘The Wiz'. The team have worked tirelessly on the planning, development and production of the performance and need funds to make their dream become a reality.
This funding will enable the club to purchase the essential materials required to make the costumes and props as well as fund the cost of the venue hire.

The Range Community Kindergarten
The Range Community Kindergarten offers quality early childhood education to the Blackall Range. It is the only kindy facility serving the suburbs of Mapleton, Flaxton and Montville and also has students from Kureelpa and Dulong.
As well as providing a professional early childhood experience for families on the range, it provides continuity of education through its links to two primary schools. Improving the amenity and safety of the Kindergarten will consolidate and enhance its importance within the range community.
The purpose of the grant is to cover an outdoor area with shade sail to provide sun protection for the children. In keeping with the Kindergartens ethos of providing quality early childhood education, a new outside play area has been built around a glass access door in to the kindergarten. This shade sail will facilitate indoor/outdoor play - whereby the children can seamlessly move from or take activities indoor to outdoors.

North Arm State School
The North Arm State School has a focus on community life in the Yandina/North Arm District. They are a public amenity that is well used and supported by the Yandina, Bridges, Ninderry and Maroochy River communities. More than 380 students draw from the 250 families that live in these areas.
The North Arm State School Marimba Band has been in operation for 8 years and has performed frequently in public venues all across the Sunshine Coast. Mr Pead, a well know community musician has allowed the school to use his own personal instruments, in an effort to help contribute to community development and over time the wear and tear on these beautiful instruments is becoming significant.
In 2008 the band received a Gold Award for at Education Queensland's Music Fanfare Conquest, all on borrowed instruments. The grant funding will purchase 4 new Marimbas. As every student in the school learns music on the Marimba, these instruments will allow current students to excel and give students of the future the opportunity to learn music on such a beautiful instrument. In addition to this, it will give children with learning difficulties and disabilities the opportunity to achieve success in an area they may never have been given the opportunity.

Filipino Australian Family Group of Sunshine Coast
The Filipino Australian Family Group of Sunshine Coast was established in 1995 as a not-for-profit community organisation. It is managed by a group of volunteers dedicated to achieve the objectives of multiculturalism among the wider community through the promotion of Filipino traditional songs and dances. It is also an active member of the Filipino Community Council of Qld.
The association has been a permanent fixture in Sunshine Coast Community gatherings and has performed at local government functions, schools, nursing homes and other celebrations. The association receives no funding from local, state or federal governments or from companies or corporations. It is fully dependant on contributions of its volunteer members.
The purpose of the grant is to purchase costumes. The association's current stock of costumes are outdated and worn out. The costumes have been passed over from member to member and has impacted heavily on the interest of the members to participate. As costumes have always been an integral factor of the association's objectives and activities, the purchase of new costumes will once again highlight the colour and grandeur of the Filipino heritage and inspire the members to continue in their efforts to bring the Filipino culture to the Sunshine Coast.

Nambour & District Netball Assoc Inc
The Nambour & Districts Netball Association began in the late 1970's at the Nambour PCYC. Continual growth saw a move to the Baptist Church grounds where more grass courts were built. They then moved to their current and most picturesque grounds located in the heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland at ‘Victory Park', Woombye. The association offers a range of competitions for the young and not so young netball enthusiasts. The courts are available to the public and are utilised by school groups for their inter-school competitions, training and other school, activities, all year round.
The funding from this grant will be used to purchase 3 water bubblers and 15 aluminium seats. The bubblers will assist in the health and welfare of the over 400 players by minimising the practice of drink bottles being shared between players, lessen the impact on the environment as a result of the disposal of plastic bottles and encourage players to maintain adequate water intake.
The aluminium seats will complete the clubs need for suitable seating around the courts, providing a safe, hygienic, long lasting and cost effective facility for players and spectators.

Congratulations to all the community groups of the second round of the Community Grants Benefit Fund. The recipients were presented with their cheques at a presentation dinner on Thursday 24th June.
